Another Standoff

'Another standoff' is my first attempt at sketching an Australian animal. This chalk image depicts an Echidna having a faceoff with an ant. Echidnas, sometimes known as spiny anteaters, are quill-covered monotremes belonging to the family Tachyglossidae, living in Australia and New Guinea.

I've started by sketching in the outline the echidna and ant, then begun filling in the details of the quills(spines) and its snout.

Here I'm continuing the laborious task of filling in the lower layer of the hundreds of quills

 I've started on it's claws and lower body before moving onto the quills again.
